Bush insults Italian PM, apologizes

The White House has apologized for distributing a political briefing to G8 reporters describing Italian PM Berlusconi as a political “amateur” who is “hated by many.”

The “insulting” biography was included in a press kit distributed to reporters travelling with President George W Bush to a meeting of world leaders in Japan. [It continues, reading] he was “one of the most controversial leaders” of a country “known for governmental corruption and vice”.

Way to go, gentlemen. You’ve clearly demonstrated the keen organizational skills needed to police us all. Also, please begin writing all Canadian federal legislation.

That guy deserves the “insult” anyway. How would it be an insult if Berlusconi is famous for using his influence over the Italian media to ensures his re-election all these times? To say nothing of his corruption records or his ties with the Italian Mafia.

Perhaps if Bush could tell the truth, then he could do a better job. Or perhaps he need to find better allies.

@Daniel J. Pagan - Things are getting a little strange in Italy right now… fingerprinting Roma (gypsies), refusing a driver’s license to a gay taxi driver, immunity for Berlusconi… it all sounds a little familiar.

The serious “pot calling the kettle black” certainly caught my attention.
