DVNO: Beautiful memories of youth
I sure do adore Justice.
DVNO, from their album †, has a new music video. Like their other videos, it is very impressive and very unlike videos from their musical peers.
The video is a visual-pastiche of reworked 1980s/90s television bumpers and is fascinating to watch. There certainly was a distinctive design aesthetic for that period that wasn’t necessarily visible as a youth during it. The inspiration for the logos are immediately recognizable, though difficult to pinpoint. These kids are working on all that for me, though, documenting the logos as best they can.
According to Xavier of Justice DVNO is a reference to a ubiquitous style of snotty club:
In every suburb of the world, in every city, there’s always a nightclub called El Divino… Clubs where you have to wear like a white shirt to get in.
Which clubs in Calgary would be considered DVNO?
One of them new restolounges downtown? (What the fuck is a restolounge, btw?) Tantra, perhaps, and most certainly FUEL on Stephen Ave. Sadly, as I listen to the lyrics I’m saddened to think of the resurrected Republik and its struggle to manage its increasingly DVNO crowd. Ironically, the Republik is one of the only clubs in town where you might hear Justice’s DVNO.
Any other notable DVNO clubs in Calgary?
