Here in Calgary Broken City’s Celebrity Hot Tub and the HiFi Club have localized the global trend of paparazzi-style party pictures.
HoboGestapo, nightlife photographer in Sydney, captured pics of a stabbing outside of a club on film.
HipsterRunoff, who pointed me to the pics, asks:
I don’t think many people have a problem with party pix that blur the line between art and pornography, but… is there a moral code that nightlife photographers need to adhere to? When is it ‘not cool’ to post a pic? Are nightlife photographers being genuine when they do their best to give the most authentic representation of each night, or do they just want krazie stuff 2 happen so they can get attention?
Doesn’t seem all that different from MSM photojournalism (or photoediting, rather).
Considering Calgary is fast becoming the “no-holds-barred Octagon” for the cocaine-edged excess labour of the Great White North we might want to ask such questions of our nightlife photographers.
Whatever our photographers decide, let’s just keep Foreign Affairs Minister Maxime Bernier’s girlfriend out of our nightspots and we’ll be a lot better off.
