Lessig to run for U.S. Congress?

Lessig
Lawrence Lessig, founder of Creative Commons, board member of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and Professor and founder of the Center for Internet and Society at Stanford Law School is considering running for Congress.

The passing of representative Tom Lantos in the California 12th, a Facebook group, and DraftLessig.org have encouraged him to do so.

For the past two decades, he has been an advocate for digital rights and the “Free Culture” movement. In 2007, he identified a shift in his activism from digital and web concerns to corruption in politics.

He is a cherished member of the web community and much of what we take for granted today has arisen from his inspiring and enthusiastic work. I’m overjoyed to hear he may be running, and his altered political involvement is good for people everywhere.

To get a sense of what his politics might look like, CODE: Version 2.0 (Wikipedia, Amazon.ca) is a good primer.
