Microblogging to Blogging
I’ve been updating my tumblelog at tumblr quite regularly and am having a tonne of fun doing it. Also, Twitter has just popped back in my life — and I’m finding it a great tool for pervasive networking and keeping up-to-date with what my scattered friends are doing. As the network effect takes hold these tools will become even more valuable.
Microblogging is a fantastic development in the social web. If you don’t know what that means, changes are, you’ve used a microblog at Facebook with status updates. Consider how many times a Facebook status update has sparked a conversation, a scandal or a revelation. Wired’s Clive Thompson argues that new tools like Twitter, or even Facebook status, create a “social sixth sense.”
Still, there are many times in the past few months that I wished I had a long-form blog again. Too much is going on in the world and on the web for me to not want to talk about it — and in a medium like blogging that facilitates complex conversations rather than 140 character status updates.
So, I’m back to blogging.
