This is outrageous. After not paying attention to the police-protest scandal in Quebec I was shocked to catch up this afternoon and utterly disgusted with the Conservative government’s response.
Quick summary: A peaceful protest at the SPP Summit in Montebello, Quebec was infiltrated by the Sûreté du Québec, disguised as out-of-place looking anarchists. They attempted to incite a violent riot and were caught on YouTube doing so. This was widely denied by officials at the provincial and federal level, including Minister of Public Safety Stockwell Day. Denials became outright lies as documentary evidence emerged on the web and official statements became increasingly contradictory and absurd.
The lies continue, with Day suggesting the police provocateurs were attempting to stop violence being incited by “extremists,” who all, apparently, look like our grandparents. Lies continue despite clear video footage and increasing outrage from media — both old and new — and the public. The government has insisted no public inquiry will be held at the federal level.

Sûreté du Québec’s official press release, admitting the provocateurs were police officers while referring to peaceful protesters as “extremists:”
The Globe and Mail’s Adam Radwanski asserts that our leaders and officials “still don’t get it” as they continue to lie and contradict one another. The SQ has committed to “reviewing its practices” and Day, quoted in the same article, says he will not deter “authorities” from using such tactics in the future.
This is the full Day quote from CTV.ca:
“The thing that was interesting in this particular incident, three people in question were spotted by protesters because were not engaging in violence,” Day said Friday in Vancouver. “They were being encouraged to throw rocks and they were not throwing rocks, it was the protesters who were throwing the rocks. That’s the irony of this,” said Day, adding the actions were substantiated by the video that he has seen of the protests. “Because they were not engaging in violence, it was noted that they were probably not protesters. I think that’s a bit of an indictment against the violent protesters.”
With this increasing scandal I can only ask: Where will Tim Robbins and Sean Penn threaten to move to if Hillary Clinton gets elected?
