Stratocrusier

Glacier Strato Crusier

For some — most perhaps — airships seem a laughable holdover from antiquated, backward times. Conjuring images of noirish paleofuturist comic books and steampunk manga they have held ground in our collective imagination but lost it in real policy and practice.

This is unfortunate.

Air ships address many of the holes and negatives of our current transportation options. For the transfer of cargo, leisure travel and tourism, much more comfortable short-haul journeys, and semi-mobile tech-infrastructure platforms, airships provide a (potentially) cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to diesel-dominant extremely high-speed or extremely low-speed transportation.

The Stratocruiser is the sexiest of the designs I’ve seen so far.

Designed by art director Tino Schaedler and Michael J. Brown, the cruiser is specifically targeted towards entertainment and health. Notably, the proposal makes provisions for resident DJs. Smalltown DJs, perhaps?

The Stratocruiser offers “medium-haul” transits: …transatlantic, transpacific, trans-american or Europe-Middle East routes. With spa, library, and private mini-offices available, the contemporary traveler who seldom has time for a cruise can transform an otherwise exhausting and ordinary journeys into a positive experience.
